Michigan Basketball

Two basketball games recognizing the ChadTough Foundation in as many years.

Both were in light of Michigan men’s basketball head coach John Beilein participating in the Infiniti Coaches Charity Challenge to raise funds and awareness for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) research.

Kathleen Beilein and Tammi Carr after the Michigan win.

Both were against a ranked Purdue team and both ended in exciting victories.

“Last year’s game came down to the wire and was very emotional,” recalls Tammi Carr. “It was only a few months after Chad had passed and we really felt his presence in the building.

“After today’s win, Coach Beilein hugged me and said there were definitely angels in the building again! I can’t even begin to express how much the Beilein family’s support means to us.

“What makes it even more incredible is that this was such a huge win for the team.”

The 82-70 victory is certainly significant for the Wolverines, who are hoping for an NCAA Tournament berth after a late-season surge. After a tough 4-6 start in conference play, they have won five of their last six.

This win over No. 14 Purdue — the top team in the Big Ten — is definitely a defining one.

“It was fitting that Michigan designated this the ChadTough game since Coach Painter and Coach Beilein have been neck-and-neck in the Infiniti Challenge since Round 1,” said Jason Carr.

“We’re hoping the challenge ends the same way as this game.”

Looking Toward the Final Round

The top four coaches – currently Coach Beilein, Purdue’s Matt Painter, Ohio State’s Thad Matta, and West Virginia’s Bob Huggins — will advance to the final round of the Infiniti Challenge.

The coach with the most votes after two weeks will win a $100,000 prize for his charity.

“This is a lot of money for DIPG and pediatric brain tumor research,” said Tammi Carr. “All of the money raised will go toward the accelerated pediatric brain tumor initiative at Michigan.

“We are urging everyone to vote!”

The third round concludes Sunday, February 26 at 11:59 a.m. Voting for the final round begins Monday, February 27 at 1 p.m. ET. Vote daily at espn.com/infiniti or sign up for daily email reminders at chadtough.org/vote!
