“Ever since we heard of Chad’s story he has lived in our hearts. Honestly, there aren’t many days that go by where we don’t think of Chad – which is always so weird to say / admit. I truly believe God has a reason for this – I want to do more. I want to give more.”
Sarah Perkovich wanted to do something “more” for her birthday this year, so she and her husband, John, organized a block party to benefit ChadTough. The event raised $5,000 for The ChadTough Foundation®.
“There was orange everywhere – balloons, flowers, pinwheels, tablecloths, ChadTough cookies, and we even distributed orange sunglasses to all of our guests,” said Sarah. “Our 50/50 and Prize Raffle brought in an additional $600 in donations. Our 50/50 winner, Mark Gardner, donated his winnings back to the charity. Salem Hills Golf course donate 4 rounds of 18 holes and my hair salon Salon Bella Vi (in Plymouth) donated $50 gift certificate.”
More than 60 people came out for the party, which is an incredible example of what “one person” (or group of people) can do for ANY cause, but especially for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) families needing advocates. Donations like these help fund the combined grants awarded by The ChadTough Foundation® and The Michael Mosier Defeat DIPG Foundation.
“We had our own Chadwink,” said Sarah. “We were setting up for the party and the most beautiful monarch butterfly came to visit. He was bright orange. He flew right across my path as we were carrying patio furniture into the road. And then again when we were putting beverages into the cooler.
“His visit was brief but long and obvious enough to know it was a special sign. I couldn’t believe it. We have lived in our house for over 5 years and I have never seen a butterfly like this before!”
Thank you Sarah, John, and your family for doing performing such an amazing gesture in Chad’s name. We promise to put that $5,000 to use finding a CURE for DIPG!
