DIPG Awareness Day is observed annually on May 17th, during Brain Tumor Awareness Month.

DIPG Awareness Day is dedicated to raising awareness about DIPG, a rare and aggressive type of childhood brain tumor, and its impact on children and their families. It also serves as a reminder of the urgent need for more research and funding to improve treatment options and find a cure for DIPG.

The advocacy effort to recognize DIPG Awareness Day nationwide was initiated by the Mosier family, co-founders of the ChadTough Defeat DIPG Foundation. It started when they inspired then-Governor Larry Hogan to establish Maryland’s first DIPG Awareness Day on May 17, 2016 in honor of the first anniversary of 6-year-old Michael Mosier’s passing.

More than 30 states and the U.S. Senate have recognized May 17 as DIPG Awareness Day. The widespread adoption of DIPG Awareness Day is the result of the combined efforts of many families who championed adoption in their own states.

Various organizations and foundations, including the DIPG Advocacy Group, host events and campaigns to raise awareness and funds on this day. People also participate in social media campaigns and share their stories to help spread awareness about DIPG.
