So, I never really posted anything after the Michigan loss last weekend. Although it was obviously disappointing, we are so proud of the season our Wolverines had and we look forward to watching them finish strong in the bowl game. So many incredible young men and coaches on this team who support ChadTough in whatever we need. We love you and forever Go Blue!
The other side of that coin, we witnessed Chad once again being bigger than the rivalry. We received hundreds of donations from the state of Ohio in the amount of $62.39 in honor of the winning score. People wanting to celebrate their victory but also do something bigger. So amazing! Thank you to everyone who has this perspective.
We also received a very generous gift from our Ohio State buddies from the Bahamas. The story … after Chad passed away, we spent Christmas in the Bahamas, trying to get as far away from the holidays as possible. On our way to breakfast one day, we met a family in the elevator. They were Ohio State fans, but after a brief conversation, it came out that we were Chad’s parents.
During that meal, they gave us a check for $1,000 for the foundation. Every year since, it has become a tradition on the morning of the Ohio State game for Craig Tuckerman of Tuckerman Home Group to make an annual gift to ChadTough. Just another example of ChadTough bringing rivals together. Thank you, Craig.
Then, on Giving Tuesday, we received a message from former Michigan State QB Drew Stanton and his wife, Kristin. They made a late night $10,000 gift to ChadTough, which brought our Giving Tuesday total well over $100,000. I met Drew years ago when he used to attend our Griese/Hutchinson/Woodson weekend as the ONLY non-Wolverine. Even back then, he realized that there were things that could bring rivals together to make an impact.
He spent time every year at that event, surrounded by Wolverines, taking the jokes in stride. He was there because we were making a difference for kids and he has never changed. He has supported ChadTough from day one and we are so grateful to have he and Kristin as part of our team. A team of rivals with a common enemy: a team of people who want to defeat DIPG no matter what color they wear on Saturday.
Thank you to all of you who wear Maize and Blue, Scarlet and Grey, Green and White, or whatever combination you choose. We thank you for putting the cause ahead of the rivalry and for bleeding orange. Go ChadTough!
