Running helped Inga Joseph manage her grief after losing her beautiful daughter, Milli, who was diagnosed with DIPG in January 2015. Milli died 8 months later in October. She was 5 years old.

To honor Milli, the Joseph family is participating in the 6th Annual RunTough for ChadTough virtual event from their home in Germany.

“The grief of Milli’s birthdays passing without Milli,” Inga says, “is enormous. Milli was an athletic child, taking sports lessons and always running around.” The Joseph family participated in a lot of sports after Milli’s death—volleyball, basketball, and running. “When the tears didn’t want to stop, I just started running in the middle of the night,” Inga told us, “and to spend money on Chad’s birthday for a cure through running was obviously a good idea.”

The Joseph family became involved with The ChadTough Foundation after Inga began following the Carr family on Facebook. “After Milli was diagnosed,” Inga reports, “we searched for anything that could help… hope, therapies, other families.” And in reading Tammi and Chad’s story, the Joseph family found not only similar experiences with therapies, but shared the family’s feelings. Inga said, “So often the same, like mine.”

The Joseph family wants to encourage others to participate in RunTough to help find a cure for DIPG. “The shock of the diagnosis, hearing the doctor talk about the 0% survival rate, the hospital and treatments and therapies were traumatizing,” the Joseph family told us. “Please run,” Inga wrote. “I don’t want any parent to hear what we heard. The opportunity to raise money for a cure means that one day families won’t have to suffer the trauma of losing a child.”
