August 20, 2015 – April 26, 2020

Diagnosed: December 4, 2019

Hunter Barr was a joyful, energetic, strong-willed, bright, adventurous, musical, funny and beautiful little boy from Falmouth, Maine.

In the winters, Hunter loved cheering on the Boston Bruins and playing the drums. In the summers, you could find him outside playing golf and watering GP’s (grandfather) garden. And all year long he happily played countless games of mini-hockey. Everything was done with an infectious energy and enthusiasm alongside his younger brother and best friend, Griffin.

Hunter’s DIPG diagnosis came in December of 2019, undergoing exceptional care from nurses, doctors and specialists at Boston Children’s Hospital and Maine Medical Center until his passing in April 2020.

Throughout the process, Hunter was a fighter (“Hunter Strong!”, as his family says), and he maintained that infectious energy as he overcame many obstacles during his illness, relearning how to walk, talk and eat.

In February 2020, following radiation, Hunter took a trip to Disney World with his family. This was his first time on a plane, and he had a natural sense of the big exciting world out there for him to explore.

What was it like? What did you get to see? These were just a few of the questions he’d ask as family would take trips to and from Maine throughout his life.

Experiencing it himself for the first time — something he’d been so curious about — was an absolute thrill.

Throughout the unforgettable week, Hunter never turned down a ride, especially the roller coasters. He rode them all with a beaming smile and no fear. He met all the Disney characters, played a full round of golf on “Mickey’s course” with his Dad, GP and Uncle Cam and ended every day relaxing in the hot tub.

Hunter was fiercely loved by his incredibly supportive, close knit and caring family who will miss him forever. Hunter is survived by his mother, Natalie (Hart) Barr, father, Ryan Barr, little brother, Griffin Barr, grandparents, Marie and Richard Hart, uncle, Cameron Hart, aunts Meredith Barr Garner and Stacy Barr, along with his amazing extended family of great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, including Raelene and Ken Fasulo, Cecily and Nick Fasulo, Anthony Fasulo and Emily Erhardt.

Hunter’s family greatly appreciates donations in any amount to further support DIPG research in his memory.
