Bill Saad, Brian Misfud, and Lloyd Carr go way back. Bill started his business, Michigan Fuels, in Riverview where Coach Carr would hold an annual football camp. Through that camp, relationships were formed that have lasted more than three decades.
“We’re a large company, and we get a lot of phone calls from people wanting us to give to their charities,” said Brian Misfud, “and we do. But we had to make a decision on what we wanted to be known for … what’s important to us.
“Bill and I realized that was kids, education, and sports. So we decided to focus our money on Lloyd Carr’s Hall of Fame football camp and C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.”
Michigan Fuels contributed to the opening of C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, the Saad and Misfud families donated all of the artwork within the Lloyd Carr unit, and their relationships continued over rounds of golf and fundraising events.
Then the Carr family was delivered devastating news on September 23, 2014 when Chad was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) three days before his fourth birthday.
“We were there with Lloyd through that and it became very important to us,” said Brian Misfud. “And now, it’s important to us to find a cure for that disease, and I think the Carr family’s going to make that happen.
“The passion Tammi and Jason are dedicating to this — I think they’re going to do it. I think they’re going to find a cure.”
Michigan Fuels is not only donating dollars to The ChadTough Foundation, they are spreading awareness by placing advertisements at their pump locations.
“From stepping in to support that football camp all those years ago to becoming a ChadTough Partner, Bill and Brian and Michigan Fuels have provided support for 30 years,” said Lloyd Carr. “Their generosity is tremendous and we’ve become great friends. I’ve very appreciative of all they have done.”
