Madison (Maddie) Shura
April 7, 2009 – April 14, 2017
Madison was a sweet, happy 7 year old when her family noticed she was suffering from double vision. That discovery led to the devastating diagnosis of DIPG – the deadliest form of cancer known to children.
Maddie was in second grade at Myers Elementary School Bellwood and a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Altoona. She loved being a Girl Scout, cheering with the Bellwood Antis High School and East Antis Rams cheer teams, and dancing with the Dance Fusion Dance Company. Madison loved running in 5K races, playing musical instruments, singing and attending school. She loved to cuddle, go fishing with her daddy, vacation in Canada, and play with her sister, cousins and friends. Her favorite color was pink and she loved unicorns, butterflies, princesses and glitter.
Maddie fought bravely against the disease for 6 months before passing away in the arms of her parents on April 14th, 2017. Her battle inspired her entire community, who have continued to celebrate Maddie’s life through a variety of memorial events and fundraisers to fund research to find a cure for DIPG. Maddie’s family is committed to our mission to #DefeatDIPG so other families who face this horrible disease have more hope for their children.
